Mail Order FAQs

Our mail order clematis program ships to the continental US mid-February through mid-October.

We ship weekly mid-February through mid-October on Mondays and Tuesdays of each week. In the early Spring months, we ask that you put your desired ship week in the notes section of the transaction. In the absence of a note, we will use our best judgement on when the last frost date is in your state and ship at that time.

After the second week of May, all orders received by Friday of the week will be in queue to ship the following Monday and Tuesday.

We ship a 1-2 year old plant, that is potted and growing in a 3.5” pot.  These plants have been pruned many times and are nice full plants.  Please note that with listing over 120 clematis varieties there may be times when plants are shipped in a 2.5” deep pot that is very well rooted.  These are ready to be planted in your garden as well.

Shipping for 1-4 plants is a flat rate of $12, 5-10 plants is $14 and 11 or more is $16.

Due to our current software systems, you will not automatically receive a shipment notification or tracking information.  You can, however, expect to receive an invoice for your order with an expected delivery date on the top right of the invoice.  Tracking information is available upon request via email to donahue@donahuesclematis.com .

Shipments to the Midwest will be sent with Speedee Delivery, while shipments outside the Midwest are sent with USPS.

Every effort is made to see that all our plants are of the highest quality when leaving the nursery.  However, neglect, poor planting conditions, adverse weather, and damage by animals can lead to plants failing.  It is impossible for us to consider complaints made more than 28 days after purchase.  Within this period, and at our discretion, we will normally replace plants free of charge if they fail within 14 days of purchase or at half price if they fail between 14 and 28 days.  Photos are required for our review of credit requests.  The placing of an order implies the acceptance of these terms.
